Developer Accounts
As of 2007, the UCC is making several of its unique machines available for libre software developers for use in porting and testing their software applications on non-standard platforms.
What's the Deal?
The deal is this, if you're a free software developer, we will give
you access to one of our machines with a generic account name (eg.
dev01
). You will only be able to access this machine. You will not
be able to access network services in the UCC, University or outside
world.
You will only be able to access one of our developer machines, if you want access to more than one machine, we politely request that you become a member.
All users will be subject to the UCC account policy, UWA network usage policy and other appropriate policies. Violation of these policies will result in immediate termination and possible further action. Additionally, users of this service must understand that their actions will be logged and their accounts monitored, to ensure system security.
Who Qualifies for an Account?
Developers in the free software community, we would like to have some idea of who you are, so it would help if you're from a known project and we can establish your credibility. If you're developing non-free software, please don't bother to apply as refusal may offend.
What Machines are Available?
Coming soon.
How do I Apply?
Contact libre-accounts ucc.asn.au (coming soon). There may be some time in processing your application, but we'll try to get in touch as soon as possible.
Why is the UCC doing this?
The UCC relies heavily on free software. As part of its social responsibility, it feels that it should give back to the free software community wherever possible. Additionally, Linux Australia gave us a sizable grant to make this project happen.
