Vice-President's Report ----------------------- - Quiz night is coming along well, surprisingly organised. - Tickets are printed and there are quite a few available for purchase in the snack machine. $5 for tickets now or $10 at the door on the night. - Break was surprisingly boring. Treasurer's Report ------------------ - Balance was $3434.03 but paid $1040.05 of bills which included AARNET charges for Q1 and Q2. Secretary's Report ------------------ - Checked mail a couple of times, there were a few bills. Fresher Rep's Report by Email ----------------------------- - "Freshers are happy." - Not enough things done about projects. Machine Technical Reports ------------------------- Servers: - No changes. Desktops: - apollo is being repaired under the extended warranty provided by the Applecare plan that was found, it has roughly 2 years left under warranty, thanks [MRD]. - We have previously been charged $49.50 by Winthrop, for determining the fault with apollo, this might be refundable. - Sacrilege is still not working, at least one hdd is dead. New Equipment: - There is a new conspicuously large plasma TV where the old TV used to be. Drinks and Snacks ----------------- - We have no more coke, and we're starting to run short on M&Ms. - [CJS] to go on coke run on Thursday. Mail, Guild and SOC ------------------- - [M12] to attend SOC meeting, which is next Tuesday. - SOC have still not paid second semester grants in spite of saying they would. - Received three bills that have been paid. General Business ---------------- - splintax : advertise scissa lan? - Is on May 2nd, night after Quiz Night. - Vote to approve advertising the SCISSA LAN: All for. - Information is on the door, and can also be obtained from the SCISSA web site. - spartanhelmet : repairing Heath's rig - In progress. - [BDL] : birthday - Is on the 22nd - [M12] : Quiz Night - Quiz night is happening, tickets are available for $5. - prothoss : Get rid of the Wii/TV - Non exhaustive list of arguments IN FAVOUR of this item: - Prevents the use of 2 computers near the safe. - Prevents access to the safe/printer. - Adds noise to an already noisy clubroom. - Does not belong in a club focused on computer science. - Promotes an anti-social atmosphere. - Takes up almost all the space on the Project Bench and renders that area unsusable for projects or other work because of the atmosphere. - May repel members. - Non exhaustive list of arguments AGAINST this item: - The Wii is fun to play, particularly for casual gamers. - Provides an activity for people who do not currently want to use a computer, and during periods when there are no computers available. - More people can make use of the Wii/TV than can make use of a single computer. - May attract members. - Provides an easy way for members to meet eachother. - Is an efficient use of space in the corner of the room. - [CHI]'s report: - May be downloaded from here: http://ucc.asn.au/infobase/minutes/chi-wii_survey.pdf - [CHI] has surveyed UCC members who have been around Cameron Hall in the last few days, in order to confirm/deny arguments on this item from the previous meeting, and to make a case for keeping the Wii/TV. - Of the 34 people asked "Do you think there is a problem with the Wii in the club?", 27 said no, 4 said yes, and 3 said they were undecided. - [CHI] also found that 7 of 8 freshers he surveyed make some use of the Wii, 4 of which make use of no other hardware in the room. - [About 30 minutes of discussion on this item] - Vote to keep both the Wii and TV for now: 2 for, 1 against, 2 abstain.
