University Computer Club - Minutes 2000/09/26 Attendance: [GMB] - Grahame Bowland [NTU] - Nick Bannon [TDH] - David Manchester [BRQ] - Bryden Quirk [ANT] - Anita Mathers [MST] - Anil Sharma [YAK] - Ian McKellar [TRS] - James Andrewartha [MTL] - Mark Tearle [DTA] - Leighton Haynes Meeting opened: 6:07pm President's report: I didn't do anything. We had a machine room cleanup, much thanks to those that came. I talked to a electrical supervisor, he says that we shouldn't have access to the cabinet. It will be locked after the downtime this weekend - five hours from 7am onwards. We can get additional circuits if needed - need to talk to the guild for this. Vice-presidents's report: Attended the machine room cleanup for a few hours. Was going to take things to Apple, but didn't. Should discuss first anyway. Nada. Treasurer's report: Balance in the order of 4000 dollars. Didn't pay the important bills. Will pay tommorow. Actions: we will talk to Guild banking about money being removed from our account without proper invoicing. Secretary's report: Absent with apologies. Machine reports: We had a cleanup of the machine room. Very successful. We have a new router and it's less lame. We should avoid putting random PCs in the corridor/free space. New router's name is hydra. DNS was broken - so when people reload bind check for errors. tail /var/log/daemon.log ! Mermaid: new CPU, no downtime or problems since the change. [TRS] tested some 17" monitors. We should give Alastair at least one working monitor back if any are found to work. General business: ----------------- RCPT.to: They should pay us the amount of money which they owe us. Current estimates are $1k at a conservative minimum. It could be more. We will bill rcpt.to for past traffic. Grahame moves that all machines hosted at the UCC shall provide access to all members. Passed without dissent. This policy will be applied to the rcpt.to machines, Packrat's boxes and to ziggy as well as all future boxes. Mail has been observed bouncing because morwong vanishes as a NIS server to mooneye. Action: will be fixed. [NTU] and [BRQ] did an FAL run. We owe him money. Action: Yakk will fix this. $428.70 Dr. Dobbs Journal - Leighton discusses why we should buy the back copies for the last few years. Action: will look at it, bring it up next week Coke run: Action: Ian and Dave will go and do a coke run on Thursday night VGA switch: Action: Ian will pay Nick $73.80 in total Tulip network cards: Action: we will give Nick the Tulip Adrian stole from us Keys: Nick wants keys and to follow up the existing keys. Action: we have a long tedious discussion with no clear outcome Yakk gives keys to Nick. Monitors: Dunc has seen 1710 Apple Monitors in UWA news. We will follow this up. Offer a $100, up to $250. We want at least two. Action: Grahame moves that we spend up to $500 on Applevision monitors - Dunc is authorised to bid on our behalf. Shelves: Nick has followed up shelving prices. There are up to three second hand shelves at Ross's salvage. These are extra deep and $250. We should remove the old blue thing, move the existing shelving and have LOTS of shelving along the far wall. Dimensions 180x180x60. We should use them + banana boxes and label them. Bryden is like Zander. Five shelves 60 centimetres deep and 1.8 metres wide. Anita starts throwing biscuits (suspiciously vegan looking) at me. I have a salty taste in my mouth 'cos one got me there. Action: we should buy one set of 180x180x60 shelves and Nick will organise this. Meeting closed.
