Lunatic Harness

Lunatic Harness is an album which many people are likely to find way to difficult to listen to, simply because it's the album where Mike Paradinas' (aka µ-Ziq) warped sense of humour well and truly gets the better of him. However, for those of you who have listened to "Come to Daddy" and "Come on my Selector," from Rephlex labelmates Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, and are still craving more derangement, this could be a very worthwhile purchase.

Let it be said that µ-Ziq has more going for him than just weirdness. He is a truly skilled drum 'n' bass artist, who manages to produce beats so erratic that they sound completely chaotic at first listen, yet sound like they couldn't have been put together any other way by the third.

The melody can sound a little artificial at times, often coming off like retro video game music. Some will take massive amounts of glee from hearing Paradinas wind jackhammer beat-box samples around Atari themes, while others most definately will not.

The album has just enough time-outs from the cheeky humour to keep it from becoming tiresome, with the remainder of the tracks being comprised of the same mad percussion, but with the melodies being more accessable and straightforward.

It'll be fairly apparent by now, that Lunatic Harness is not for everyone, but if you enjoy electronica's goofier moments, then you should enjoy this too.
