Before he decided to start making making bizzare jungle experiments with little in the way of consistent rhythm or melody, Tom "Squarepusher" Jenkinson kicked off his career with a moderately straightforward drum & bass debut.

While still far more experimental than anything out of the club scene, the album is basically made up of fairly standard beats with looped instruments and samples, combining for a very prog-jazz kind of feel. There are hints of Jenkinson's experimental tendencies (the stripped back kicks on "North Circular") as well as his demented sense of humour (the close to "Smedley's Melody"). Both of these elements would go on to become full blown trademarks by Squarepusher's relentlessly creative third album, Music is Rotted One Note.

Overall, this is one of the less impressive albums in the Squarepusher catalogue. One only for fans or people who find the other stuff a bit too crazy.
