Stuart the Nice is having a more drastic problem with some kamakazi-brand[0] 
router which locks up several times a day, leading to a 100% packet loss.  His 
solution is a relay on the power line, triggered by a PC when it can't ping 
the router for more than 10 minutes.  A straight reset doesn't help, you need 
to do a full 240 reset to get it going again.

[0] From a possibly-UK-originated ad which contains the phrase "It appears the 
    new Kamakazi photocopier doesn't so much copy as kamakazi".  The fact that 
    most people know about the kamakazi thing is infinitely useful because you
    can describe an equipment problem as "It's being caused by the new
    Kamakazi modem" and they'll understand without having to be told what the 
    actual problem is.
